The Shapeshifters
The Shapeshifters gave house music one of its biggest crossover moments: “Lola’s Theme”, their debut single, went to number one in the UK in July 2004. Formed by Simon Marlin and Max Reich, the project continues with Simon behind the decks, bringing that same joyful, soulful energy to every room.
English-born Simon Marlin and Swedish-born Max Reich first met in Gothenburg in 1996. Marlin had been a club promoter and part of the Journeys by DJ crew, and “Lola’s Theme” was the launch release for their own label, Nocturnal Groove.
“Back to Basics” followed in 2005, and over the years the project has released through Positiva and Defected. Reich stepped away in 2017, and Marlin carries the name on as a DJ and producer. The Shapeshifters played Social in 2022.
